How to Troubleshoot a Powermax XP4400
- 1). Check the fuel and oil levels using a dip stick to measure the levels of fuel and oil in the respective reservoirs. The device could be out of fuel or low on oil, either of which will cause the generator to not perform at its best if it operates at all. Check the fuel and oil lines for blockages.
- 2). Inspect the battery to determine if it is in working order as the generator's electric starter is a key feature of the device. Make sure the battery's contacts are clean and firmly in place as any connection problem could prevent the XP 4400 from starting. Tighten and clean the connection points to avoid the build up of sulfate and also make sure the battery is turned back on after cleaning.
- 3). Unscrew the spark plugs and remove them from the device using the spark plug wrench that comes with the XP 4400. Inspect the spark plugs to make sure they are clean and dry and replace them if necessary. Ensure all other connections are firmly in place.
- 4). Examine the circuit breakers and fuses. Blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers are problems that can be easily replaced and could explain why the device is failing to generate the expected voltage.
- 5). Restart the device. Like rebooting a computer, this can correct any problems that may be occurring.
