• The Catalina was Pontiac's full-size offering for the 1968 model year. That year also featured the last year of the Catalina's body style that had been in use since 1965. Seeking to gain as many consumers as possible for full-sized cars, Pontiac offered the Catalina in five different body styles. High-performance enthusiasts could also be attracted by a special version of the 428 big-block engine. • The 400-cubic-inch eight-cylinder was standard equipment. The 400 featured a 4.12-inch bore and a 3.75-inch stroke. It produced 290 horsepower and 428 ft.-lbs. of torque. A 428-cubic-inch eight-cylinder engine was optional equipment. The 428 featured a 4.12-inch bore and a 4.00-inch stroke. It produced 375 horsepower and 472 ft.-lbs. of torque. A high-performance 428 was also available that produced 390 horsepower and 465 ft.-lbs. of torque.
  
  

Brakes

• All models of the '65 Catalina featured self-adjusting drum brakes that operated on hydraulic power. Each drum was 11 inches in diameter. Power brakes were optional equipment.

• All models of the Catalina had the same fluid capacities. The Catalina stored a maximum of 26.5 gallons of fuel. The transmission held five pints of fluid. The rear differential held 4.5 pints of lubricant.
