    • The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size family car with a long history. In production since 1958, the Impala has seen numerous changes over the decades but has always been a high-selling model.     • The 2009 Impala is a four-door, five-seat, large family car which is 204.9 inches long, 72.9 inches wide and 58.7 inches tall. It has a curb weight in the region of 3,555 lbs and requires a turning circle of 38 feet. Internal volume of the vehicle is around 104.5 cubic feet, with front headroom of 39.4 inches and legroom of 42.3 inches. Trunk space available, with all seats in place, is around 18.6 cubic feet.

    Engine

    • The engine is a medium-powered, front-mounted, 3.5-liter V6. It is able to produce in the region of 211 horsepower and 214 foot-pounds of torque. It is also offered with the option of a slightly more expensive V8 engine, which could top out at 303 horsepower.

    Fuel

    • With a 17.5-gallon fuel tank, a single fill-up can produce a little over 380 miles of highway travel. Within the city, fuel economy tops out at around 14 miles to the gallon and that figure increases to 22 on the open highway.

    Standard Features

    • The 2009 Impala has plenty of extra luxuries as standard, such as satellite radio, fuel consumption indicators and cruise control. Standard seat covering was cloth, some trims were available in leather. Other standard features include power steering, air conditioning, door ajar sensors, electric seats and cruise control.

    Safety

    • The National Highway Transport Safety Association gave the Impala five stars in driver and passenger front- and side-impact crash tests, in relation to the front seats. These results add to its tag of being a family car; it scored no lower than four stars in the rear seat safety tests. Other safety features include anti-lock brakes, ignition disable, side impact beams and traction control. Airbags as standard can be found in front, to the sides and overhead.
