My Automobile Insurance Is Up for Renewal in Florida... Should I Stay Loyal to My Insurance Company?

20
Q. My automobile insurance is up for renewal, should I stay loyal to my insurance company?

A. I get asked this question all the time and my answer is always, no. Insurance companies are only loyal to you if you are paying your premiums and not filing any type of claim. Once you file a claim, they drop you like a bad habit. They are not loyal to you, they are loyal to their bottom line. So shouldn't you do the same? There is nothing wrong with being loyal to your bottom line. Find the best deal to suit your needs.

All too often, once a person makes a claim to the insurance company one of two things happen: Either your rates go up; or you are dropped. I see this daily. You could have 20 years of a perfect driving and then an uninsured person hits you and you get injured. You file a claim under your uninsured motorist coverage (which you have been paying premiums for 20 years just for this specific situation) to pay your medical bills and then your insurance company drops you. Unfortunately, that is the reality of auto insurance. Insurance companies are in the business to make money not pay claims. Therefore, go with the company that you believe offers you the best deal.
