How to Prune a Capsicum Plant

11
    • 1). Remove any dead or diseased leaves. Removing the leaves of pepper plants makes the fruit more vulnerable to sunscald, which causes toughened, white spots. Keep the plant as healthy as possible so the leaves don't become diseased.

    • 2). Cut ripe peppers from the capsicum plant with a sharp knife. Pulling them off damages the stem and may encourage infection.

    • 3). Trim capsicum plants back slightly in very warm climates, removing 2 to 3 inches from the top of the plant. This practice is not recommended for Northern gardens, but can extend the plant's productivity in areas with long growing seasons.
