Training Your Dog With A Shock Collar - What You Must Not Forget!

24
Have you ever thought about using shock collars to train your dog? Now, to most they may seem barbaric at first - the name doesn't do much to help alleviate any concern.
When used correctly they can be quite an effective way to train a dog - leading to better behavior much faster than any other method.
The first thing you might want to do is put away any prejudices that you have about shock training collars.
While they were once not a very kind thing to use, nowadays the models work much better than the ones from yesteryear.
If you have any reservations about them, just take a quick search online to see what others have used them have said.
Generally, you'll find they are very pleased at the results and will not call them cruel.
Also, when taking a look at what's available you should consider what the right collar for you is.
There are many different types of training collars you can choose from - some meant for training two dogs, some meant for correcting problem barking, some that only vibrate rather than shock your dog.
The key is to consider what the needs for your dog are and then find a collar to suit those training needs.
Once you get a shock collar, you need to allow your dog to become accustomed to wearing it.
Let them just wear it around for a while until it feels comfortable, and once you start to correct them with it use a lower setting at first until you find the need for a higher one.
Like with any other dog training method, you should remember to be consistent when using a training collar.
Consistency means that you treat your dog's behavior the same way all the time, and reward them or correct them in the same fashion.
Use the same commands, and don't try to confuse them.
Just follow the same rules for correcting your dog with a collar and you'll begin to see results quite quickly.
When training with a collar, always show your dog the right behavior after making any correction.
If you don't do this then the problem behavior won't be replaced as your dog won't know how you want them to behave.
In many cases they can be too afraid to do anything for fear they'll get shocked again - this is not the result you want from a training collar.
The goal is to eventually not to need it at all, so always strive to improve your dog's behavior naturally and you'll get the right result.
