How to Install 7.1 Home Theater Speakers
- 1). Place the front left and right speakers at least 10 feet apart on each side of the AV receiver with the center speaker between them. Check the back of each speaker for an identifying label as a guide to placement, for example, LF is typically used to denote left front. Setting the speakers at a distance gives superior stereo sound.
- 2). Place two of the surround sound speakers on the sides of the room at a 90-degree angle to the main seating area, with one speaker on each side.
- 3). Set up the two rear surround sound speakers behind the seating area. Dolby Laboratories recommends turning the speakers inward toward the back of the seating at a 45-degree angle.
- 4). Cut a length of speaker wire sufficient to connect each speaker to the terminals on the AV receiver. Strip away 1/2 inch of plastic insulation from the two wire strands on each end.
- 5). Connect the pair of wires to the red and black terminals on the back of each speaker. Push up on the terminals to open holes underneath. One wire goes in the hole below the red terminal and the other connects to the hole beneath the black terminal.
- 6). Attach the two wires on the other end to the terminals on the AV receiver that are marked for each speaker. Work systematically around the room, connecting one speaker at a time to ensure the wires are hooked up to the correct terminals. The wire from the red terminal on each speaker must also connect to the red terminal on the AV receiver to prevent crossing the stereo signal.
- 7). Plug in the subwoofer cable from the sub output jack on the AV receiver to the input jack on the rear panel of the subwoofer.
