An owner of a new vehicle wants keep it in the best shape possible for as long as possible. The 1968 Ford maintenance checklist was provided in owner's manual to help extend the life of the vehicle. There are regular 6,12, 24, 30 and 36 month maintenance procedures. These will keep the vehicles components running efficiently. - According to the 1968 Ford owner's manual, every six months or 6,000 miles the motor oil and oil filter need to be changed. The brake fluid, belts in the engine, transmission fluid and exhaust control valve all need to be checked at the same interval. In addition, every six months the oil filler cap should be cleaned and the oil levels in the rear axles are to be checked.
- Every 12 months, in addition to the regular six month maintenance, the fuel filter and the emission control valve must be replaced. The carburetor spacer and all the emission control hoses, fittings and tubes need to be cleaned. As these components are cleaned, they should be inspected and replaced if needed.
- In addition to the 6 and 12 month maintenance, at 24 months the air filter needs to be replaced to keep up with regular maintenance. Every 30 months the brake lines should be inspected for cracks or leaks and the front wheel bearings need to be checked and repacked. The body hinges, all steering arms stops and joints, ball joints and all locks should be lubed at 36 months.
