Knowing the Different Types of Allergies

16
An allergy is a condition many people suffer from due to different factors. It is not yet clear why bodies show sensitivity to different allergens. Experts are still finding out more about the causes and effects of this condition.

People may show sensitivity to anything. It is just they experience varying degrees of sensitivity. Different allergies are not prevalent in different areas of the world. The major reason is that what people consume affect them. Particular preferences are also a major factor. Those who live in industrialized areas may appear to be allergic to gluten, fish, peanuts, and other types of nuts. Infants and younger children may seem to have some issues with dairy, eggs, and other soy products.

Allergies are harmless, but there are some instances that you may need urgent care. Knowing the condition's different types may save your from troubles.

Food Allergies

This is a body's negative response to certain food components such as protein. This type of allergy happens when the immune system identifies protein as a harmful component. This triggers the immune system to send white blood cells to attack the supposed invader, and starts the allergic reaction. You will notice that some people respond negatively to food rich in protein like milk, soya, eggs, fish, and peanuts.

The body responds in forms of dermatitis and respiratory problems. Immunotherapy and avoidance are the common treatments for this condition.

Seasonal allergies

A seasonal allergy is the body's reaction that is usually occurs during certain times of the year such as spring and fall. The allergy actually refers to the body's adverse response to pollen, grass, leaves, and weeds in spring or fall.

Ragweed is a common allergen that typically spreads in August, which makes it a summer allergy factor. Air pollutants like ozone, or the combination of sunlight, nitrogen oxide and other hydrocarbons, may be also summer allergens. Humidity also induces the growth of dust mites and molds. Allergens like mites, molds, and other small pests may spread through the air when it gets cold, and can induce allergies.

Regular cleaning and use of dehumidifiers may reduce the allergens present inside and outside your home. Bathe your pets regularly so they will not shed too much fur during these seasons.

Pet allergies

Cats and dogs may make wonderful pets, but these animals also cause allergies. Studies show that each breed of these animals has specific level of allergens.

It's not always the animal's fur that triggers allergies. People also have adverse responses to the animals' dander, or dead skin flakes. The animals' saliva and urine may also be factors.

Other allergies

There are also other allergies like hay fever, allergic conjunctivitis and hives. Some people are also allergic to medicines such as aspirin. Cosmetic products can also induce allergies, as these have certain ingredients that act as allergens.

Keep in mind that these allergies, though harmless, may lead to other complications.
