Airport Check In Process – 3 Critical Things to Remember

18
It is 2:00 am in the morning and you are eagerly in the airport to board your next flight.  To many people this can be a stressful and anxious time.  Did you bring your airplane tickets?  Did you pack your bags correctly?  Did you water your plants at home?  These are some of the things that could be rushing through your mind while you are already at the airport.  Because of all these things running through your head, you may actually forget about what is most important on hand, which is to correctly check in to your flight at the airport.  There are actually many important things to take note of during the check in process before you board your flight.  Here are the three critical things to remember.

1.  Arrive to the airport early for check in

It is recommended to arrive to the airport about 2 hours before the scheduled departure of your airplane.  This will give you ample time to complete the check in process, as well as going through the customs and security checks.  Arriving 2 hours beforehand seems to be an optimal timing in which you will ensure your luggage is not checked into early, which means your luggage will not be one of the last to arrive at the baggage receiving carousel at your end destination.  Also, this optimal timing will ensure you have ample time after going through customs and security to do some last minute shopping or go to the washroom at the airport departure terminal.

2.  Have your passport and e-ticket ready

Ensure you have your passport and your plane e-ticket ready in advanced.  Usually plane tickets now are issued via the Internet, and all you need to do is print out the confirmation form that is emailed to you.  This is considered your proof that you have an e-ticket issued already.  By having your passport and e-tickets ready, you will ensure your check in process happens as efficiently as possible.  If you are traveling with a huge group, it is recommended that one person consolidates all the passports and tickets together so that it makes it easier for the airline ticket agent to check you all in faster.

3.  Check to ensure the airline agent has properly tagged your check in luggage

If you have any check in luggage, the airline agent will tag your luggage with a special barcode tag.  This tag is what helps the airline company identify your luggage throughout the flight.  This is crucial so that if in the event you lose your baggage upon arrival, this tag will help the airline company trace the whereabouts of your luggage.  However what you got to make sure of is that the airline agent actually pasted the special barcode tag on the luggage itself, and also provided you a copy of it.  In many cases the airline agent could have forgotten to tag the luggage itself, and therefore should you have any inquiries on your missing baggage, the airline would have no trace of it at all.

By following remembering these 3 critical things during the check in process, you will ensure you will have a smooth journey ahead.
