Contention Is a Marriage Killer
Marriage is Gods course and in pursuing Gods course, there are certain things, attitudes, actions, thoughts and utterances we must avoid. In Gods course, there are things He has decried, "Thou shall not", those thing should be avoided if one needs happiness and prosperity in marriage.
Contention
This is one character prevalent with women, and many have either caused great damage, health wise to their husband, economic wise to family business, or destroyed their homes completely through this evil.
Contention is defined as, always intending to argue", or "Likely to cause argument". Argumentative, controversial, quarrelsome, troublesome are other words to describe it. The scripture refers to contention as an evil worse than a wilderness.
"Better to dwell in the wilderness than with a contentions and angry woman" - Proverbs 21:19.
"It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop than in a house shared with a contention woman". Proverbs 25:24.
"A continual dripping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike, whoever restrains her, restrains the wind and grasps oil with his right hand" Proverbs 27:15-16.
Comparing contention with a wilderness, is directly informing us that contention in a home is, a home without life, a desert, a place of absolute dryness, unproductive home, a barren home, unfruitful, unprogressive and unuseful. Therefore contention should be avoided.
Most homes under the evil of contention are unconducive to live. It affects the occupants psychologically, physically, emotionally, spiritually and economically. Nothing good comes out of such homes.
Many women have ruined their husbands health through contention, because contention fuels, stress, high blood pressure, insanity, paralysis and other deadly diseases.
Contention affects a family spiritually, because the Holy Spirit does not operate in a crisis ridden environment.
Contention provokes a closed heaven, unanswered prayers and curses. It also opens doors for demonic infestation and attacks.
Contention provokes economic stagnation. God gives power to make wealth, if the heavens are closed, no matter one's struggle, investment or inputs will yield only frustration.
Contention, psychologically affects every one in a home, the husband, the wife and even the children. It keeps every one on edge, and keeps most husbands away from home.
Contention is as a result of a non regenerated life. Lack of self control, lack of the fear of God, lack of submission and respect. It is a disregard to God's word, and an evidence of pride and foolishness.
Contention can cause physical barrenness or constant miscarriages in a woman, because in the mood of contention, physiological changes occur in the human body which can cause so many damages in the human health.
Contention makes one ravenous and in the process, lead one to ridicule and bring shame to her husband and household. Always remember; "An excellent wife is crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones" Proverbs 12:4.
Contention is repulsive and widens to gap in a marital relationship. It makes one miserable and breaks communication completely. Contention should be avoided.
It does not proffer solution, rather fuels a problem. The truth is that, no man loves a contentious woman, because she is untrustworthy, inconsiderate and shameless. Irrespective of the offence, a man must have committed against the wife.
