Products for Curly Hair for Babies
Shampoo
Your baby's hair does not need to be shampooed every day. For the first year or so, it can be done only as often as is needed. If your baby has cradle cap, you may want to shampoo more often. When using a shampoo, make sure that it is formulated specifically for babies. Baby shampoos have fewer chemicals and are often tear-free. You can also simply rinse your baby's hair with water if you don't want to use a shampoo.
Tangle Free
If your baby's curly hair gets knotted or tangled, you can use a mild detangler, usually in the form of a spray applied after washing, to help remove the knots. Simply spray the product onto your baby's hair and pull a wide-toothed comb through it. Work in small sections and start from the ends, working your way up toward the root. A good way to prevent tangles is to brush your baby's hair out immediately after washing and, if the hair is long enough, tie it up with a pinch-free elastic.
Moisturize
Curly hair needs to be kept well-moisturized, as it has a tendency to be drier than other hair types. The scalp naturally produces oils that keep your baby's hair moisturized; however, if the hair is very curly, the oils may not penetrate the entire length of the hair. Moisturize your baby's curls after every wash, even if you don't use a shampoo.
Leave-In Treatments
If your baby's curls seem exceptionally dry, you can use a leave-in conditioner. Product lines like California Baby offer leave-in conditioners that are safe for baby's sensitive skin and will help maintain moisture levels by creating a seal that essentially locks in moisture.
