How to Make a Neuron Project for School
- 1). Shape one color of clay into a sphere. This will be the cell body. Also known as the "soma," the cell body contains the nucleus of the neuron.
- 2). Roll another color of clay into on elongated piece and then divide into into four to six smaller pieces. Attach these pieces to the cell body as though they are tendrils or the points of a star. These represent dendrites, which gather information and transport it to the cell body.
- 3). Roll a third piece of clay in another color into one long piece. Attach this piece to the cell body. It represents the axon and functions to take information away from the cell body.
- 4). Use the final color of clay to form small circle. Attach this circle to the axon on the opposite end from the cell body. The small circle represents the axon terminal. The axon terminal is where the neuron will connect with other cells. When a connection is made it's called a synapse.
