Why Not Use Your Golden Retriever Grooming As A Bonding Session

14
Golden Retrievers are such delightful pets.
They are known to be one of the most loyal and faithful dogs among all breeds and owning one is a real joy.
Owning any dog comes with responsibilities and with a retriever one of the responsibilities is grooming.
While most dog owners find that some of these tasks are a chore, with a golden retriever, you will never regret doing so because they return that love and attention ten fold.
Did you realize that the time that you put into grooming can also be a bonding experience between you and your faithful companion? A lot of studies have proven that sharing your time grooming your dog builds up a bond that lasts forever.
Shedding, matting and spots are some of the major concerns of a retriever that an owner has but if one dedicates a bit of time to their dog, grooming sessions will always be a pleasure rather than a dreaded task.
It is important for the owner to build a bond with his dog and golden retriever grooming is the right occasion to make this happen.
Young puppies do not need too much grooming but one must ensure that they should groom puppies anyway because this is how they get habituated to grooming sessions and can welcome grooming as they mature.
Even if you do not actually brush your golden retriever puppy it is a good idea to run your hands over it as if you were brushing it so that it gets used to the feel of being touched.
An area that needs special attention with the puppy is the feet, not because there is anything wrong, but in order to get the puppy used to having its feet cared for.
An owner should constantly and gently play with the feet of a puppy so that it gets used to its feet being handled because hair clipping and nail clipping of a dog can be very difficult if the dog is not used to having its feet handled.
What is it that makes bonding take place when golden retriever grooming?
  • Trust: there is an amount of trust that should build between the owner and his dog.
Dogs are very choosy and do not like everybody touching them but the grooming session is the appropriate time where the dog can identify its owner and it allows them to build trust.
A puppy does not know who its owner is unless they see a person regularly handling them and caring for them.
This is how you can make yourself recognizable to the dog.
  • Training: few know, but a lot of training happens during the golden retriever grooming session.
During this time the dog needs to obey its owner and these small orders become naturalto the dog and it will become a habit every time a grooming session starts to sit and stay.
  • Attention: golden retrievers love to get attention from their owners and would do anything to get noticed by their owner.
Golden retriever grooming is the only time that an owner solely dedicates their time to their dog and during this time the dog becomes extra affectionate with their owners.
Moreover, dogs love their hair to get brushed regularly as this keeps them more comfortable.
Golden retriever grooming is certainly one of the best times between the owner and his dog because they relate to each other on a one on one basis.
When starting the grooming of your golden retriever take the time to do nothing else but give it the attention it deserves.
No phones, no distractions and give it at least 15 minutes of your undivided attention.
