How to Choose the Perfect Pram

22
Buying your first pram is like navigating a minefield, do you get a pram that turns into a pushchair or buy both, do you get a one with a built in car seat or do you just leave the seat in the car. The choices are endless. Most parents usually have a budget of around 500; others may have a little bit more or a little bit less to spend. It is a lot of money and you don't really want to make a mistake.

With that in mind, many people recommend leaving buying the pram until the baby is born; the last thing on your mind when the baby arrives is the colour or ingeniousness of your purchase. You will also be in the baby frame of mind and probably less likely to choose the pretty sparkly and completely impractical buggy.

There are several things you need to have in mind when making the all-important choice. Firstly, will it fit in the boot of your car? If it will, will you be able to get other things in there too, your shopping will increase ten-fold when the baby arrives, especially considering the size of the jumbo nappy packs. Secondly, where are you likely to be going? If you live in a second floor flat then you will need to buy a light pram. If you live in the countryside you will need something that is sturdy and easily cleaned. You should also measure the doorways in your home. You don't want to spend hundreds of pounds and discover it won't fit through your doors. Thirdly, you should reflect how your lifestyle will affect the use of your pram. Are you a busy person, jumping in and out of the car and rushing around? If so then you might be better getting a one with an inbuilt car seat to make things easier.

Another vitally important thing to consider is how easily can you fold it up and put it back up again. You don't want to be struggling with a pram in a busy shopping centre.

There are a lot of things to consider when buying a pram, it is something you will have to live with and use every day for the first year. Don't get excited and pulled into the sales pitch, you will end up spending too much money on something you are unhappy with. The best advice is to wait; when the baby arrives you will understand what you need. Remember to test them out, then have a look on the internet and see if you can get a cheaper version.
