How to Get Wrinkles Out of Silk

    • 1). Use an iron and a cloth to get wrinkles out of silk. It's risky to touch the iron directly to your silk clothing, even if your iron has a "silk" setting. Place your silk clothing item onto the ironing board as you normally would. Then, put a thin cloth or rag on top of the silk item. Set your iron to the lowest setting (which may be the "silk" setting) and place the iron on the cloth. Then, iron your silk piece as you would any other item. Make sure to not leave the iron in the same place for any more than a few seconds or you may damage the item.

    • 2). Steam your silk clothes with a handheld steamer. This is a way to get wrinkles out of silk without having to worry about burning the clothes. Hang your silk item in an open area so that you can walk around it. Keep the steamer about 6 to 8 inches away from the silk piece and run the steamer from top to bottom on the front and back of the piece. If the piece gets too wet, lay it down on a clean and flat surface and dry it with a towel. Run the towel straight from top to bottom to help prevent any wrinkles from reappearing.

    • 3). Wash your silk garments by hand and hang them either inside or outside. The weight from the water will help to get wrinkles out of the silk items. Let these items hang for roughly 15 minutes and then hand dry them using a towel, as mentioned in Step 2. If you don't hand dry your silk items, you may end up with small water marks on the clothes.

    • 4). Use steam from your shower to get wrinkles out of silk. Hang the item in the middle of your bathroom (or from the door if you don't have anywhere else). Turn your shower on so that the heat is on the highest setting. Close the door to your bathroom and let the shower run for 7 to 10 minutes. Turn off the shower and put the silk item on a flat surface. Dry the item using a towel.
