Emotions during driving in snow

It was our journey from Washington D.C to New Jersey on Dec26th, 2011. We entered our destination address in GPS and it calculated reaching time as 6.30.  As we were listening to the radio channels it was clear that there is going to be a heavy snow blizzard. In the initial stage our emotional level was stronger and was not bothered much about the predictions. We were discussing about our stay, friends and places visited etc. These topics kept us totally energized and enthusiastic. Slowly our hunger level triggered and fuel was also less in the car. So we pulled over in a Service Area and finished both the tasks. Again our journey continued with no hassles. Everywhere the warning "Reduce Speed", "Exit closed" caused a slight butterfly in our stomach. Slowly the wind was in white color and visibility got reduced.

The time for imbalance of our emotions started.  Now our focus was more on radio channels. Silence pervaded for a long time. All skills like concentration, decision making, critical thinking, and logical thinking started to pop up in mind. Speed came down to 35m/hr and traffic started to slow down. The number of cars pulled over due to skidding started to cause fear. The sirens of 911 were like the background music of a thrilling movie. The only way to continue was boosting our confidence level and presence of mind. We felt very happy that we have filled enough gallons to reach our destination and packed some food to munch on the way. The number of cars in the service area was about a mile. So we dropped the idea of taking any more break. The destination time was now extended by two hours. The distance to be covered was still 72 miles and speed came down further to 25m/hr.  As usual postmortem of the past events started and came to a conclusion that we should have started little earlier.   Alas!  No way to reverse back.  So again we geared up with positive thinking and felt "So far So good".

The facial expression was a combination of fear, thrill, tension and excitement. Many cars stranded on the way pumped our blood pressure. People abandoning car and calling 911 became a common scenario. The wind speed increased and road was just snow bed. Applying break needed not just caution but guts too.  GPS was just for guiding the route and we were eagerly waiting for the sweet tone from GPS for our Exit.  Our Exit came by 10.00 in the night and we were almost at the end of our achievement. From Exit the destination was just 3 miles. Just like kids waiting for their medals in running race we were also counting down minutes.

It was time for the wiper to be cleaned and snow became ice which was adding a different kind of sound effect. After cleaning the wiper it took a turn in our emotional balance. The car was not moving and there was no visibility. This was the time we felt "What Next?". Somehow pushing and cleaning the glass made a small move and slowly we regained our heart. Once we were away few yards from our friend's place GPS got confused. Our friend who was guiding the route from home came out and courageously walked in the 3 ft snow in the middle of night. We were in a situation to make a path in the snow bed. Somehow we were just few minutes to park the car and the car got stuck. After giving throttle and gaining confidence we just left our car in front of a house in the Layout and walked inside house just taking our electronic items. This adventurous trip was memorable and experienced all our emotions. Finally we reached the destination at 12.00 as we have won Olympic medal .True! It was really more than winning an Olympic medal in that heavy snow.
