How to Remove Accent Tile Without Damaging the Tub
- 1). Use your utility knife and putty knife to extract the caulk line that sits between the accent tiles and the tub. Run the utility knife along the top and bottom edges of the caulk line, then pry out the caulk with your putty knife.
- 2). Dig out the grout around each accent tile, scraping the saw forward and back on the lines and working your way in. Make sure not to scrape the surrounding tiles or dig into the wall behind the tiles.
- 3). Place a chisel in the open grout line to one side of one tile, with the sharp edge of the chisel against the back of the tile (where it meets the wall), and gently tap it you're your hammer until it pops out.
- 4). Chisel out the rest of the tiles in the same manner, tapping at the bases of the tiles from the open sides. Continue until all the tiles are out.
- 5). Go over the whole space with a razor scraper to take up any remaining glue or mortar. Vacuum out the space. The wall is now ready for the installation of replacement tiles.
