History:

The Boston Terrier is a breed that was actually created in the United States. In Boston around 1870, an English Bulldog was crossed with a white English Terrier. The result was a dog that would evolve into to the Boston Terrier.

Later in the 1800's, these dogs were being called Round Heads or Bull Terriers. In 1891, the name was changed to Boston Terrier. Two years later, the breed was admitted to the AKC.

The Boston Terrier gradually increased in popularity since then, become one of the more popular companion dog breeds seen today.

Size:

12-25 pounds

According to the AKC breed standard, weight is divided into the following:
  • Under 15 pounds
  • 15 pounds and under 20 pounds
  • 20 pounds and not to exceed 25 pounds

Colors:

Black, seal or brindle with white markings

Responsible breeders strive to maintain the highest breed standards as established by kennel clubs like the AKC. Dogs bred by these standards are less likely to develop hereditary conditions.
