Smart Homes …Coming Fast, Faster Than We Expected

25
"SMART HOMES" the term has lived up to a popularity that was not much predicted by many. What is the concept in realism? How will things work when we start living in one of those smarty homes, well; we are yet to experience it entirely as most of the technologies under the innovation are still under development. However, some things are weird in these smart homes and make us wonder if they are turning us dreary. For example, why would have refrigerator indicate when I should drink water or when I need a glass of milk? Said that, majority of things are for the good and make things easier than they ever were, hence these smart home technologies are worth a try for sure.

There was a family cartoon show back in 1962 called the "Jetsons"-an American family that turned a household name through their fantasizing smart home predictions of the future. It was a very interesting concept where they displayed a future world of 100 years (2062) and the autonomous things happening around. The writers of the show were somewhat aiming the target as today already we are witnessing and living around some of the innovations shown on the show back then.

Devices like the flat television, smart kitchen are coming to shape that too within the half way mark than they predicted, however the conveyer path and the robotic arm that assist Mr. Jetson in his bathroom is yet to be experienced by us (soon expected though).

Although the thinkers of the show were almost bang on target, they missed to explore the concepts of Internet of Things (IOT) and Thingalytics in smart home devices.

What is Thingalytics?

Going beyond smart home concept, Thingalytics can be termed as an updated version of the same where smart devices proceed further than just being smart. Thingalytics enables smart devices to produce data by themselves (no need of feeding any of it) through the help of sensors and communicate with likely built smart appliances.

The concept of Thingalytics enables these appliances with sensors giving them ‘feelings' so much so that they can call for action or assistance when required.

Examples of Thingalytics:

Electrolux has announced a smart fridge that not only runs in an innovative, efficient manner but is smarter enough to order the water filters when required and add essential items to your shopping cart as they are consumed. The smart stove from the maker is too good as it does more than cooking as it monitors the process of the dish, judges the complexity and the time frame thus also decides the temperature to be maintained during the preparation.

Cox Communications is studying the viewership theory and thus is making television further smart by identifying the preferred content liked by the viewer and also catering commercials that is connective to the audience. All this and more in the future is possible utilizing Thingalytics and growing digital technologies.

Smart home concept has just begun to take root and if inputs are to be trusted things will run beyond imaginations. With the mix of IOT and Thingalytics, smartness and automation in appliances may well make impossible things possible in the coming ages.
