Battery Installation

• If the camera fails to turn on, confirm that batteries are installed by turning the Pentax over and pushing open the battery cover. Install only two AA alkaline, nickel manganese, lithium or Ni-MH batteries. Confirm that the ends of the batteries match the polarity indicators printed on the inside of the battery chamber. If the installed batteries are rechargeable, confirm that the batteries are fully charged before reinserting them.
  
  

AC Adapter

• If the batteries are dead, dispose of them and replace them. If new batteries are unavailable, use the optional AC adapter kit, K-AC62. Plug the AC power cord into the charger pack, and plug the AC adapter into the DC coupler cable. Insert the DC coupler battery unit into the battery chamber as you would two AA batteries. Close the battery cover and fit the DC coupler cable into the small area between the closed battery cover and camera. Plug the AC power cord into a wall outlet. Turn the camera on and use normally.
  
  

Dirty Contacts

• Inspect the Optio batteries and battery contacts for dirt or grime. If the connection between the batteries and metal contacts is disrupted, the camera ceases to operate. Open the battery cover and remove the batteries. Check the metal contacts for blockage. If the contacts are dirty, use a dry cotton swab to remove the buildup. If the batteries are dirty, clean them with a cleaning cloth. If the battery terminals are corroded or covered with a rusty substance, dispose of them properly and replace them with new ones. If camera gets too hot or starts smoking, remove the batteries immediately.
  
  

Duration

• Sometimes, you find that you can't shoot as many images with the E60 as you thought with a set of new batteries. The Optio E60 shoots about 200 pictures with a set of AA batteries; however, extra circumstances lower this number. For instance, if the flash is used for more than 50 percent of the images, the amount of images captured with the Pentax is reduced. Other factors lower the image count, including temperature, playback time and movie recording.
