How to Identify Your Jeep Wrangler
- 1). Consult your Jeep's title to find out the specific model and year of your vehicle. Every state has its own title design; look on the front underneath the logo that says "Title of State" for your vehicle's information. The information may be split into columns. For example, the year the Jeep was made may be listed in a column titled "Year." Make note of the model and year of your Jeep.
- 2). Consult your Jeep's licensing papers if you can't find the title. Though the specific layout of your licensing papers will depend on your state, one of the papers will list your name and address and the licensed vehicle's information. Make note of the model and year of your Jeep.
- 3). Consult your Jeep's warranty papers from the dealership or manufacturer if you have a warranty. The warranty papers may be in the form of a pamphlet. The information pertaining to your Jeep may be written on the inside of the pamphlet, or printed onto the first or last sheet in the warranty papers. Take note of the model and year of your Jeep.
- 4). Compare your information with this list of Jeep letter codes: All Jeep CJs are known by the CJ code followed by its edition number. All Jeep Comanches are known by the MJ code. All Jeep Libertys are known by the KJ code. All Jeep Cherokees are known by the XJ code. All Grand Cherokees manufactured up to and including 1998 are known by the ZJ code, between 1999 and 2004 are known by the WJ code and between 2005 and 2010 are known by WK. Wranglers made up to and including 1996 are are known by the YJ code, between 1997 and 2006 are known by the TJ code, and all Wranglers from 2007 to 2010 are designated by JK.
