Exercise Is Good! But Godliness Is Best
Many of us do take care of our bodies.
This is the correct thing to do.
We have one body and we all need to appreciate it and do all we can to keep it healthy.
The Scriptures do not overlook bodily exercise: 1Timothy 4:8 says, "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but Godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
" Physical exercise is good according to the above passage.
You can profit from it.
But the profits of exercise cannot be compared to an investment in Godliness! For one thing, Godliness will encourage you not only to exercise and take care of your body; but also inspire you to do it the right way.
But Godliness goes beyond the physical exercise.
Mere physical exercise would profit you--only in this life! By now, I hope you believe there would be another life.
I hope you do not believe that we come into this world, just to live and die.
This is certainly not the case! Some of us need to get the truth of this matter, settled in our minds.
Where we would spend eternity, depends on what we believe; and how we live in this world.
There is no room for error in our thinking or belief, regarding the matter of eternity! There is no midway sanctuary here..
We would either be right or wrong.
In addition, we cannot afford being wrong! Thank God: He has provided us with help so we can know what is right or wrong.
And make the right choice.
We therefore have no excuse.
Knowing the right path and pursuing it--is Godliness.
Going the right way in life does not guarantee freedom from problems and troubles.
However, it does guarantee the invisible presence of the One who created us.
He Himself has made the guarantee.
He promised being there with us in every difficulty or problem that we face.
We have seen His Devine Power and protection at work as recorded in the Holy Scriptures.
His presence would supply us with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
He would be our defense representative against any form of evil that may come against us.
Believers can testify to this.
We are completely exposed to the world, the flesh, and the devil--without God, and His Son Jesus Christ.
In our own strength, we are losers--when any of those opposing forces come against us.
The solution is Godliness--pursuing God.
The exercise of Godliness brings spiritual and material blessings--like nothing else can.
Each individual believer has to prove this for him or herself.
You do not have to rely on another's testimony.
Jesus Christ welcomes you or anyone to prove this for them self.
Therefore, you see, bodily exercise is good: but Godliness is far better; it takes into account everything for this world and the One to come.
