Calgary Nissan Owners Drive Green
Over the past four decades, automobiles have become more and more environmentally friendly, largely thanks to government efforts. Since 1967, when the first environmental regulations were set in place, automobiles have improved drastically. All automotive manufacturers have found ways to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions - without sacrificing power. Over the past 40 years, though, Nissan has been leading the way, ahead of its competition, toward a more environmentally friendly future for automobiles.
Governments Promote Driving Green
Environmental regulations for cars began in 1967, when then-Governor of California Ronald Reagan formed the California Air Resources Board (CARB). For decades in the United States; California has taken the most aggressive stance against air pollutants produced by automobiles. In Canada, British Columbia and Quebec have petitioned for the most stringent standards.
Both the United States and Canada followed California lead. In 1970 the United States created its Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Canada counterpart, Environment Canada, was formed in 1971.
It was not until nearly four decades later though, in 2010, that the United States, Canada, California, British Columbia and Quebec, along with all their respective agencies, agreed to a grand compromise. The countries agreed to enforce more strict regulations regarding pollutants, and the states and provinces agreed to follow the countries policies.
