I Learned the Secrets of Metal Detecting
I decided recently that I needed a hobby, something that would get me out of the house, into the fresh air and give me a bit of exercise too.
So, with that I mind I went out and bought myself a metal detector on the advice of a friend of mine.
What could be better I thought, being out in the open, walking up and down, and finding hidden treasure as well.
So, a few weekends ago I loaded my new metal detector into the car and headed for a stretch of deserted coastline not too far from where we live.
It was a bit cold and there was a breeze blowing off the sea but it didn't bother me as I was excited about what I might find hidden below the sand and shingle.
I turned on the metal detector, put the headphones on my head, at least my ears would be protected from the cold, and set off making my first sweep of the selected area.
Not long after I started it began to drizzle lightly but I carried on, waiting for all important beep through the headphones.
Two hours later, I was soaked to the skin, freezing cold and the only beeps I heard resulted in finding some bits of rusty old junk.
When I got back home I phoned my friend and told him what had happened.
He burst out laughing, which didn't make me feel any better at all.
So I decided to delve into this hobby more.
I wanted to know where I could buy the best equipment that wouldn't cost me a fortune.
I needed to find out how to get permission to go onto private land and hunt for treasure.
I needed to know what to look for even before I went out looking for it.
Metal Detecting can be a fascinating hobby, but like most things you need to know all the tips and secrets to really get the benefits out of it.
