What is the Growing Season for Oranges in Florida?
- According to the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida, Navel, Hamlin and Parson Brown are early season oranges. They bloom from March to April and require seven to eight months to mature. They are harvested in early October to January.
- Pineapple and Midsweet are mid-season oranges. They bloom from March to April. Pineapple oranges are harvested from December to February. Midsweet oranges are harvested from January to March.
- The Valencia is a late season orange. According to a 2008 report by Fritz Roka, Jackie Burns, Jim Syvertsen, and Robert Ebel for the University of Florida, it is harvested during the latter part of the harvest season. They bloom from February to March and require 14 to 16 months to mature.
Two crops are on each tree. The mature Valencia oranges are harvested late March to June.
