How to Plant Green Tea Plants
- 1). Choose a plant from the nursery in a 1 to 3 gallon container standing about 3 feet high. Seeds do not store well and are usually planted right after collection in the field.
- 2). Choose a site to plant the tea plant. It can be in full sun or light shade about 10 feet away from any other plants or buildings. The plant requires well-drained soil with a pH of 4.5 to 7. The plants can be placed in pots large enough to accommodate roots and give them a little room to grow in potting soil. This allows for the plants to be brought inside during cold winters.
- 3). Dig a hole four times the diameter of the root ball of the plant and 2 to 3 times deeper than the container. This will allow for the roots to be spread out before planting.
- 4). Loosen the roots and place them in the hole making sure the top of the root ball is at the same level or slightly above the level of the surrounding soil. If it is not, back fill until the correct height is achieved.
- 5). Fill the hole with soil and firmly place the plant into the ground.
- 6). Water well until the plant starts to grow, and mulch around the base and roots to keep it moist.
