  The 1996 Ford F350 offered four engine models; a 4.9L six-cylinder gasoline engine code Y, a 5.8L eight-cylinder gasoline engine code H, a 7.3L eight-cylinder diesel engine code F and a 7.5L eight-cylinder gasoline engine code G. You identify the engine code by locating the eighth digit of the VIN located in the lower driver's-side corner of the front windshield.
  
  

4.9L Engine Code Y and 7.5L Engine Code G

• Factory recommendations are to use 6.1 quarts of SAE 5w30 oil with a WIX 51515 oil filter. The drain plug torques to 15 to 25 foot-pounds of torque.
  
  

5.8L Engine Code H

• This model engine uses 6.1 quarts of SAE 5w30 with a WIX 51372 oil filter. The drain plug torques also torques to 15 to 25 foot-pounds of torque.
  
  

7.3L Engine Code F

• Ford recommends 14 quarts of SAE 15w40 synthetic blend oil with a WIX 51734 oil filter. Drain plug torque is 15 to 25 foot-pounds of torque.
