How to Bring Someone Up to a Certain Compensation Level

13
    • 1). Review the educational background of the employee you wish to bring up in compensation. Look for a way to increase compensation levels by offering the employee a chance to further his education by taking additional college courses or enrolling for a training program specific to the type of job he performs at work. Education and training experience enhance an employee's value -- especially if the employee receives a license or a certification -- and can bump him up to the next compensation level because of that background.

    • 2). Give the employee more responsibilities. Expand the employee's job description to include some managerial or supervisory duties. Giving an employee more responsibility, especially in the realm of managing others, overseeing projects and making decisions, is an effective way to bump up the employee's compensation level.

    • 3). Propose a job title change. Rather than simply giving the employee more duties to perform, go a step further and actually change the title of the employee's position. For instance, instead of being a project representative, change the title to contract specialist. Certain companies give compensation level increases based on job titles, because the titles imply more responsibility and a more-extensive background.
