Gone are the days in which we could leave our front door wide open without fear of danger, theft, or crime. Gone are the days in which it was unnecessary or even ridiculous to even think about locking the doors. Gone are the days of our grandparents. With the risk of home theft looming every household, there has been a surge in the amount of technology developed to counteract the risks of home theft.

The vast number of different home security devices can be daunting when attempting to find the perfect device and system to fit you and your family's security needs. Depending on preference and budget, there are a variety of different systems and a number of different devices that can benefit your household by reducing the risks involved with home theft and burglary. One of the most popular and effective forms of home security is the monitored system in which your home is wired with state of the art security technology. Moreover, the entire alarms system in your home should be linekd with the monitoring center so that should a burglar attempt to break into your home, it will alert this center of the ongoing burglary. Because there is a high potential for false alarms, the monitoring company gives the resident a few moments to contact them. If no notice of such a false alarm is received, the monitoring company will then notify the police department of the burglary.

The unmonitored system also utilizes a system of alarms; however, it is not linked to a monitoring company. Rather, in the event of a burglary, the alarms will sound and the lights will flash, alerting all those around, including the intruder, of the burglary. One of two scenarios is ideal. The first would be that the neighbors would hear the loud alarms and notify the police department of the burglary. The second would be that the alarm system would scare off the burglar in fear of the arrival of the police. While it is less costly because there are no monitoring fees, it also places the responsibility on others rather than the resident or the monitoring company.

In addition to these different systems, there are also a number of different alarm devices that work effectively to combat home theft. There is the glass break alarm, which is triggered by the sound of breaking glass, so that if a burglar attempts to break into your home by breaking the glass door or window, the alarm will be set off. Moreover, there are panic buttons which ensure that even if the phone lines are cut off, that you can still notify the police department of the ongoing burglary in your home. It serves as an added insurance.

All these different modes of security provide you with options to cater to your particular preferences and budgets. They all do a great job on deterring home theft; however, it merely depends on your particular situation, location, and preference as to which device you will decide to invest in.
