How to Paint on Smooth Rocks
- 1). Place several layers of newspaper on a suitable work surface to collect paint spills or spatters.
- 2). Select smooth, clean rocks for painting. Choose single rocks to paint, or stack and glue smooth rocks together to create interesting shapes. Use white craft glue and and allow it to thoroughly dry before painting.
- 3). Choose tempera paints in fun colors such as red, yellow, green and blue. Mix and match colors or use specific colors to match an event or theme, such as the Fourth of July holiday.
- 4). Apply a base coat of paint to the smooth rock. Allow the base coat to dry before applying subsequent coats of paint. Create interesting shapes and patterns on the smooth rocks with the tempera paint and brushes.
- 5). Place the painted, smooth rocks in a warm and dry location and allow the paint to thoroughly dry before handling.
