How to Fix Costs for Solar Energy Contracts

20
    • 1). Find a solar energy company that is willing to enter into a fixed cost contract. You should be able to do this, as these types of agreements are becoming more popular. Talk to people in your organization who are familiar with this area. If you do not know where to start, conduct an Internet search. Type "solar energy fixed cost contracts." This will reveal a number of different energy companies.

    • 2). Determine your budget and goals. You need to know how much energy you plan to use and the length of contract you are seeking. Consider whether your organization will be needing more energy in 10 years and how this may affect your need for energy. Understand the goals of your organization and ensure that you have the authority to negotiate the contract.

Prepare a series of questions based on your organization's needs. Calculate your energy needs and determine how they may change if your organization builds additions to existing structures, hires new employees or expands operations.

    • 3). Meet with a representative of the energy company. Discuss the length of the contract and the cost. These agreements range from 5 to 25 years. Discuss your organization's goals and how solar energy will further these goals. Gain as comprehensive an understanding as possible of the agreement. If you work for a government agency, you will have to request competitive bids.

    • 4). Review the contract offer with the members of your board of directors. After reaching a decision, sign the contract.
