The Bottom Line

The Head-Lite is an interesting and useful product. I've used mine on a night-time hog hunt and a couple of deer hunts, and it does the job.

Guide Review - Head-Lite cap with built-in halogen light

The Head-Lite is one of many interesting products that I encountered at the 2003 SHOT Show in Orlando, Florida. While more and more hunters seem to be discovering the benefits of head-worn lights, this was the first time I'd seen one built into a cap, and it caught my eye. A few months later, I was in touch with them again, and they generously helped sponsor a USSA-sponsored hog hunt in June of 2003 by providing Head-Lites for the hunt participants.

The first time I used the cap was around the house, and it seemed to work well. It did a good job on the night-time spear hunt that preceded the USSA hunt mentioned above, and though it could have been brighter, it did fine for lighting the immediate area, which is what it's meant to do.

Heck, I even used my Head-Lite when I was rebuilding a small engine for my Power King tractor! I needed three hands and I also needed light - so I donned the Head-Lite and settled for two free hands.

If you're looking for a head-borne jillion-candlepower spotlight, this ain't it... but if you want enough light to find your way to your turkey hunting blind, or to set up your climbing tree stand in the morning without having to keep track of both a flashlight and a hat, then this product will serve you well.
