    • 1). Eat a healthy diet. You can increase HDL (good cholesterol) in your body by cutting out foods high in fat. Start reading food labels and know the daily requirements of fat your body needs. You should be meeting your daily requirements, but not surpassing them. However, there are certain foods with a high fat content you can eat that will actually help increase HDL: fish, nuts and oatmeal, among others.

    • 2). Start up a daily exercise regimen. This is one of the best ways to lower cholesterol and triglycerides. Just abpout any kind of aerobic activity is sufficient, even if it's simply walking. All that matters is that your heart rate increases while exercising. This will increase HDL and decrease LDL and tryglicerides. Try to exercise at least 15-20 minutes a day.

    • 3). Lose weight. This will lower LDL and triglycerides and increase HDL. If you've cut back on the fat in your diet and are exercising regularly, but still aren't losing weight, then start to cut back on calories as well.

    • 4). Take medication like statins. For some people, even lifestyle changes will not be sufficient to lower your LDL & triglycerides. Others may have such high cholesterol they'll need to be put on medication immediately. Talk to your doctor to see which option is best for you.
