How to Find Out About Back Child Support
- 1). Find your child support order, which will list how much the paying parent is supposed to pay each month, your case number and other vital information.
- 2). Contact the child support enforcement (CSE) office in your state (see Resources below) and ask a representative for the amount of back child support owed. You may be able to obtain this information by calling the child support enforcement office or by visiting the office in person. If you can't find your case number, you may be asked to provide your name, address and Social Security number or other identifying information.
- 3). Check your monthly billing notice. In some states, it includes past-due balances.
- 1). Visit your state's child support enforcement website (see Resources below).
- 2). Look for a section for accessing child support statements online.
- 3). Request a pin and provide the information requested as part of the pin request process. For example, you might have to supply your name and address, Social Security number and child support case number. You may be asked to enter this information online or by calling a phone number listed on the website.
- 4). Receive your pin. It may be delivered by mail or given to you over the phone. Depending on where you live, you might even receive it over the Internet.
- 5). Visit your state's website again and log in with your pin number and member number or username.
- 6). View your payment statements as the payee or the payer. Some states provide total balances online while others may only show a record for the last 30 days.
