How to Cover a Solar Pool

    • 1). Lay the solar pool cover bubble-side down next to the pool. If you purchased the solar cover on a reel, line the reel up so that it is completely even with one end of the pool.

    • 2). Pull the solar cover onto the surface of the water, making sure that the bubbles face the water, not the sky. If using an automatic or semiautomatic reel, you will need to guide the cover gently into place and make sure there are no gaps between the cover and the wall.

    • 3). Extend the cover so that it effectively hides all water surfaces. If necessary, for above-ground pools or certain types of covers, secure the cover into place with ties or clips. This step will vary by product; some covers do not require securing methods and will simply sit on the water's surface.

    • 4). Allow the cover to sit for three to four days and then check the coverage to make sure it has hidden the full surface. Wrinkling or folding during covering can change the way the cover fits on the pool. Adjust as necessary.

    • 5). Trim the cover if necessary; some solar covers or blankets will require you to trim them to fit the pool's surface for best coverage. Make sure you have allowed enough time for all wrinkles and folds to settle before trimming. Cut away excess cover so that the material does not overlap the side wall at all, or else air could leak in, ruining the pool's condition.
