8
Look at the size of a cigarette.
Imagine a cigarette without its filter.
Hmmm..
even smaller.
Now you will wonder what this cigarette can contain.
Back in the day it would just be tobacco, as it was branded that way.
But not anymore! Cigarette smoke contains over 4000 chemicals, including 43 cancer causing compounds and 400 other toxins.
Nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic and even DDT.
And you always wondered why cigarette smoking is dangerous! Out of these, nicotine is highly addictive and acts as a stimulant to the brain if taken in low doses.
When taken in higher doses, nicotine acts as a depressant and inhibits the flow of signals between the nerve cells.
In even bigger doses, nicotine acts as a very dangerous poison and affects heart, blood vessels and hormones.
Nicotine contained smoke when inhaled by the lungs reaches the human brain within six seconds.
In addition to nicotine, tar enters the lungs with every puff and the amount increases exponentially with every puff and forms a sticky mass in the lungs.
Carbon monoxide restricts the red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body.
Most of the chemicals through smoke stay in your lungs causing further damage to your lungs.
Let's talk about some of the other ingredients and what there used for.
- Ammonia as you know that it is used to clean toilet bowls.
- Arsenic is used in rat poisons to kill rats.
- Benzene is used in making synthetic rubbers and dyes.
- Butane is used in lighter fluid.
- Cadmium is used in batteries and the popular banned pesticide named DDT are just a few of the long horrible list of substances you will find in your cigarette.
The filter is supposed to make the cigarette safer, but how could this be true.
Filters do not remove enough tar to make cigarettes to make it safe to smoke.
And look the chemicals I just mentioned...
there's no way a tiny filter can prevent all those chemicals reaching your bloodstream.
I know many of these cigarette companies have slick advertisements that make smoking look cool.
But how after reading about these chemicals that enter your body...
is it worth it?
