More Ships Are Beginning to Cruise From the UK Especially From Southampton

35
As air travel becomes more and more restrictive, holidaymakers are increasingly turning to cruise holidays.
The advantages over crowded airports; cancelled or delayed flights and decreasing baggage allowances are obvious.
Then there's the less obvious - fear of flying, terrorism, and jetlag.
None of these figure on the cruise holiday itinerary, it's just a delightfully, no-hassle way to enjoy visiting some of the best, most interesting places in the world.
The UK ports, and in particular cruises from Southampton, are increasingly popular, and some of the most prestigious cruise lines such as P&O Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruises operate out of the port.
Cruises from Southampton are attractive choices as the whole of the Mediterranean, the Aegean, the North Sea, and onwards to the Norwegian Fiords, or the Arctic regions are all within a few hours sailing time from the UK.
And you get to sail home again in the same leisurely way that you sailed out.
Your cabin is your home from home for the entire sailing without having to pack and catch a flight home.
Southampton also sees cruise ships leave on longer trips.
P&O have no less than five world cruises leaving the UK in the 2011/12 season.
At the other end of the price scale, a three or four day cruise closer to home, over to Ireland for example, is a great way to chill out for a short break.
There are some good cruise deals available on these shorter trips, and it's a good way to try out a cruise holiday if you haven't experienced one before.
And when it comes to your wardrobe you don't have to worry about what clothes to take with you.
With a cruise you can take a choice of clothing from warm sweaters to skimpy tops - you'll never be caught out with the wrong outfit.
And as for evening wear, you can hang it all up in your cabin wardrobe and take your time deciding what you're going to wear that night.
No need to double up on tops and trousers that go with anything, or have all your clothes come out creased and crumpled because of that meagre weight allowance the airlines impose.
For passengers taking a more northerly cruise for example, this is a real bonus point - you can pack in those fleeces and thermals without having to compromise on the evening wear.
Getting to Southampton docks is trouble free, with easy road and rail access, and secure parking, just one more reason why cruise holidays from the UK are so popular.
Southampton is just two hours from London by train, and with good road links from all over the UK access is easy.
Upon arrival at the port passengers' luggage is taken to their cabins for them.
From then on you are on holiday.
All that needs to be done is to settle back, enjoy the departure and then to explore your floating hotel at your leisure.
