Big Game Hunting in BC, Canada
- All non-British Columbia (BC) residents wishing to hunt big game in BC must apply in advance for a non-resident hunting license, as well as a license for the particular animal they wish to hunt.
- All non-resident hunters in BC must be accompanied by a qualified and registered guide while hunting big game. Guide outfitters vary in cost depending on location and which package you choose.
- You must be at least 18 years old to bring firearms into Canada. You must declare your firearm at the first point of entry into the country and fill out a non-resident firearm declaration form. Obtain your form in advance by calling Canadian customs (800-731-4000).
- BC hunting regulations require that hunters report the killing of a lynx, bobcat or wolverine within 30 days. For some game--such as cougars, grizzly bears and mountain goats--hunters must submit the animal, or parts of the animal, before they can legally own it.
- Sportsmen in BC can hunt a variety of animals, including: bighorn and thinhorn sheep; black and grizzly bears; white-tailed, mule and black-tail deer; North American bison; elk; cougars; caribou; and mountain goats.
