You Are What You Eat So Make Sure You Eat Well

25
I'm sure that you have heard of the expression that you are what you eat.
This simple statement is profound and true.
Unfortunately, most of what Americans eat today consists of foods loaded with trans fats, calories, salt and sugar.
You can also add in all the other processing factors that foods go through too.
It is no wonder that it is very difficult for the average American to maintain what is considered a normal body weight.
People are constantly on diets, but rarely do they lose weight and keep it off permanently.
The problem is that we should not have to be on diets all the time.
If we were to eat a healthy balanced diet and have some modicum of activity in our life two thirds of us would not be overweight or obese.
I am basically an optimist at heart; however, it is very difficult to see how we as a country are going to reverse the obesity rates if we continue to accept that large corporations are responsible for our diet.
These corporations spend millions of dollars each day advertising foods on television.
A corporation is set up to make money for it shareholders.
It is not an entity that has empathy for making this country fatter.
This does not mean that you have to buy into the corporate culture of fast food and processed foods.
You can reject these ideas and eat a very healthy diet in the process.
The key is to get back to the basics of how food was served for millennia until 30 years ago.
Yes, it has been the last 30 years that have seen the astounding rate of overweight and obese individuals rise to the level of two thirds of every individual in this country.
Human physiology has not changed that radically in 30 years.
What has changed, is what we now ingest daily for sustenance.
It is no longer home cooked meals prepared with love and concern by those for whom it feeds; it is now food that has been processed to the point where it often contains little of its original foodstuffs.
So if you're a young person today struggling with trying to lose weight, ask your grandparents or other elders that you know of what they used to eat when they were kids.
You may actually have to do some research on the Internet to try and determine what constitutes a healthy diet.
You could also get information in a store like Whole Foods about eating a healthy diet.
You don't have to shop there because the prices are too steep for most people, but they can provide you with information on what is considered healthy and what is not.
Because the axiom is true, you are what you eat, you better start eating healthy.
