How to Use a Gear Puller to Pull Pulleys
- 1). Place the jaws of the gear puller on the back of the pulley with the forcing screw sitting in the front center of the pulley. Tighten the forcing screw with a socket wrench just enough to make the jaws snug so you can adjust them on the pulley.
- 2). Adjust the jaws so they are even on the back of the pulley and tighten the gear pulley with the socket wrench to secure it on the pulley.
- 3). Remove the pulley by turning the socket wrench carefully on the end of the forcing screw and verifying that the screw remains in the center of the pulley. Tighten the gear puller until the pulley comes loose; remove it from the vehicle.
