Business Resources for Students
- Students have a number of business and career resources available to them.business is business - cliche image by Jeffrey Zalesny from Fotolia.com
When students want to get involved in business (or just more generally in their career), there are a number of resources available to help them. Most of these resources come from their academic community, but there may be other resources available to students who want to look further for help. - While many students have to participate in an internship for their studies, these positions can often be a great resource. Essentially, an internship allows a student to work in his chosen environment, make important networking connections, and learn the ins and outs of a business (or begin to learn them). Unlike other entry-level positions, internships are specifically geared toward students and may not be available to the general public. As such, students have a major advantage by using internships to increase their own business knowledge.
- Most college campuses have a career center. Whether you're currently attending or you're an alumnus of the college doesn't usually matter. The centers are generally open to current and former students. The individuals who work in the career center will help students put together a resume, will conduct dummy interviews and will help them look for careers in their chosen fields. Additionally, the career center may be a good place to look for people with certain skill sets if you want to hire other students to help you run a business of your own (assuming that the campus would endorse that kind of activity).
- Another business resource that's provided for many students are collections of case study analyses. These are basically studies of market trends and business trends over the years. A school of business traditionally keeps books of these on hand to use as samples. If students read and understand these analyses (something that professors can assist with), then the knowledge can be extremely helpful in setting up their own business plans. The more you understand the details of your field of business, the more likely your business is to succeed.
