the Soprano's Can Provide Relief to Our Worries

37
Why are we so infatuated with the bad boy shows like Sons of Anarchy and the Soprano's? Tony Soprano, from the Soprano's and Jax from the Sons of Anarchy are two leading men we cannot get enough of. They are killers.

I think we embrace these characters because no matter how many evil deeds we have seen them do, there still is some good underneath it all. It helps us understand the people like the Tony's and Jax's in the real world, according to Movies Online.
Both shows are very similar, they have families they belong to outside their own family. Tony Soprano has his mob family and Jax has his biker family. But, it is because they belong to the outside families that they do the evil deeds they do. It is part of being a member of the mob or a biker club. This part of the show brings us the excitement and sometimes gore, but I think it is the interaction we see with their nuclear family that makes these evil beings seem human to us.

For all the criminal activity that Tony and Jax partake in, they have a complete different side to them. They are real family men when it comes to their partners, children and parents. Their caring and devotion to their biological families somehow eases are minds that evil can be reeled in. It makes the criminals we see in real life become more human to us, by watching these two TV shows.

What they lack as moral minded citizens, they make up for with the way they love and take care of their real families, as discussed in an article by Peter Mattessi. This gives us hope that behind the masks of the demons we see on the news, that there is a human being inside.

The fact that Tony and Jax can be two men in one, evil and good, takes some of our fear away of people like this. This works psychologically for us. By knowing the inner workings of Jax and Tony Soprano's characters this takes some of the strength away from our adult "boogie men".

It is much like when we were kids and we finally realized there was no monster under our bed or in our closet. It was a relief to have our childhood monsters explained away by our parents, the same type of explanation is seen here.
