Wind DC Generators Need Excitement Too
The road away from the the electrical grid is not long nor is it littered with broken windmills or busted blades.
The fried wind dc generators do not clutter the side banks of our back roads.
There may be a few disadvantages to using an automobile dc alternator unless it has been converted.
A car alternator in it's original condition is built to spin at a very high a rate of speed in order to produce the desired amount of energy, and wind just will not drive the blades that fast, making it necessary to make certain windings modifications to the alternator system in order make it viable to use as a wind turbine.
The Nature Of The DC Alternator You need a battery when using an alternator.
You have to have a power source to excite the field in an alternator.
A battery also helps put the volts on a level playing field, as it were.
A dc permanent magnet motor is self-exciting, unlike most alternators which are not, whereby needing to be excited, unlike the magnetic motor.
And why go through all that research and work when you can buy a dc permanent magnet motor and build a wind turbine generator for a rather reasonable amount.
What type of motor you use to get to the point of producing electricity at home is really not the point.
It's the producing of the maximum amount of reliable energy at the lowest possible cost.
After the minimal time factor and start up cost, it's free, and you can't get any cheaper than that.

I was on a forum this afternoon asking for some free advice on types of batteries.
After I posted my comment - and of course I left a link to my site - a gentlemen replied to my posting, stating that e-books and courses are seldom worth the money that you pay for them, he also stated that being as I have not purchased the wind generator plans, they must not be worth the price being asked for the product.
Of course I rebutted the comment with a fact stating that the product was more than worth the value.
I was just looking for batteries and am somewhat knowledgeable in the field of homebuilt wind generator systems, and not in need of diagrams or of being led through the steps necessary in the building process of them.
I do not ask for direction either.
Hindsight is 20-20, and what I should have asked him is, "Do you think the prices that people are paying for electricity today is fair and/or worth it"? The product that I am promoting,like the homebuilt wind generator, can and will reduce their need of or their dependence on the grid, saving them money for years to come.
I believe and have so stated many times before, that the building of a wind energy system or solar energy house today is not only smart, but in a not- too- distant future it will become necessary, not only for home energy but for an affordable means of travel as well.
