How to Download Antivirus From the Internet
- 1). Visit CNET Network's Download.com page to download free antivirus software. To visit this page, see the resources section.
Download.com is one of the largest online software databases available on the Internet. The website allows personal computer (PC) users to choose different types of software for a wide variety of platforms. For example, a PC user can customize their search for an antivirus on Download.com to find only programs that are free and are compatible with the Windows platform. - 2). Type the phrase "antivirus" in the Download.com search field, and then select your platform by clicking on the drop-down menu located next to the search field area.
- 3). Search for a free downloadable antivirus program by clicking on the red search icon located to the right of the search field. Be sure to narrow down your search results by clicking on the word "free" located below the "Narrow your search" column on the left-hand corner of the page. Selecting this option will ensure that the results displayed are free antivirus software programs.
- 4). Compare various antivirus software based on the review ratings. There are generally two types of ratings; editors' rating (rating based on CNET experts' opinion), and user ratings.
- 5). Download an antivirus program by clicking on the name of the program, selecting the "Download Now" button, choosing the "Save file" button, and then selecting a PC location.
- 6). Upon completion of the download process, install the antivirus software by double-clicking on the file name, and then following the program prompts.
Note that if you already have antivirus software on your PC, you will need to uninstall the program first before installing the new antivirus software.
