How to Make Rap Beats for Free
- 1). Download Fruity Loops from the FL Studio website (see "References"). Run the tutorial to get a feel for the program. Understand that not all the features are available for the demo version of Fruity Loops.
- 2). Click "view" in the upper-left hand corner of the program. Scroll down to "arrange windows." Press "default" so that the entire Fruity Loops layout is visible, including the sample browser, the play-list and the sample loader.
- 3). Click "packs" in the sample browser. Scroll down the the "Hip-Hop" section. Choose samples that you can create a drum pattern with including a drum, clap, hat and snare. It is important to pick samples under this section because these music samples are akin to most rap beats.
- 4). Send the music samples to the sample loader by right-clicking them. Press "send to selected channel." Check the sample loader to ensure that the samples were successfully transferred.
- 5). Scroll under the "strings" and "simsynth" sections to find instruments to incorporate into the beat. The "boobass" sample is already loaded into the sample loader. Right-click the sample you want to play. Press "send to piano roll." This will allow you to create the melody. Do this for each instrument you want to put in the beat.
- 6). Click the play-list layout. Select a different "pattern" for each instrument you use. Look to the left of the play-list to find the different patterns. Name each pattern according to the music samples each one holds.
- 7). Insert patterns into the play-list by clicking on a open space within the play-list. There are numbers at the top of the play-list that help you align the various patterns with one another.
- 8). Add as many patterns as you like. Right-click any patterns that are misplaced. Press the space-bar to listen to your beat.
