Knight in Shining Armor Crafts
- Kids of all ages can enjoy making their own knights out of construction paper, aluminum foil and a few other materials, but young children may need help from an adult. Begin by cutting out a basic outline for the knight out of aluminum foil. The outline should look similar to that of a gingerbread man, but with rectangular limbs instead of rounded ones. Glue the aluminum foil onto the construction paper and cut away excess paper. Cut out a small rectangle of skin-colored paper, draw on two eyes and glue the rectangle onto the knight's helmet. Give your knight other accessories as you please, such as a feather for his helmet or a sword made out of pipe cleaners.
- Create a life-size shield with cardboard and other decorative materials. Draw and cut out the outline for the shield from the side of a cardboard box. Make the shield "shine" by painting it with metallic silver paint or by gluing aluminum foil on its front. Attach a strip of cardboard or heavy elastic to the back for a handle. Lastly, decorate the shield as desired, using stickers, markers and paints to fill the front with pictures of the shield-bearer's interests.
- Every knight in shining armor needs a sword. Create a safe, easy-to-make sword using heavy cardboard and metallic paints. Draw and cut out a sword that measures around arm's length in size. Paint the blade with silver paint and the handle with gold or bronze paint. Once the paint dries, decorate the handle with "jewels" or unique designs. Paint the jewels with red, green or blue paints, or glue flat-backed craft gems on the handle, instead.
- Even the best of knights would be nowhere without his shining armor. Allow kids to design their own armor using sheets of silver, gray or black poster board in various sizes. The armor should consist of two large pieces of poster board for the torso, one for the front and one for the back, tied together with yarn. Armor may include additional poster board for the arms and legs. Kids should personalize their armor by decorating it with metallic paints or markers.
