How to Line Up Planer Blades
- 1). Unscrew and remove the clamping jaw. Clean the entire area. Use alcohol and try to get rid of as much grunge as possible so the blades and blade holders will ultimately be as even as possible. This will improve the tool's performance.
- 2). Align the groove on top of the blade with the ridge of the blade holder. Carefully slide the blades onto the ridges on the blade holders.
- 3). Replace the clamping jaw.
- 4). Position the blades so that they are centered relative to the front and rear shoe. They should be aligned with each other. They should be positioned so they don't touch any part of the planer when it rotates. They should be evenly pushed back toward the holder to make sure they are level. You can use a piece of wood to do this. The inner side of the blade should be pressed toward the sloping part of the blade holder.
- 5). Eyeball it. Everything should look even and aligned.
- 6). Tighten the torx clamping screws. Tighten the two outer screws first and then the inner screw.
