How to Remote Access Windows with a Home Server
- 1). Click the "Windows Home Server Console" button in the computer's task bar. This opens a configuration console. Click "Remote Access" on the left side of the window.
- 2). Click the "Turn On" button to enable Remote Desktop on your Home Server. Click the "Configure" button to open a configuration wizard. Before you can access your Windows Home Server, you must give it a domain name. A wizard program opens that guides you through the process of configuring your computer. Click "Next" in the first window displayed.
- 3). Enter an email address in the next window. This is the email address used to send messages to if something fails on the Windows Home Server. Click "Next." Select "I accept" in the license agreement screen and click "Next" again.
- 4). Enter a domain name for the Windows Home Server. This is the name used to access the computer from your local machine. Click "Next," then click "Finish" at the final summary screen. You receive a success message that Remote Desktop has been configured.
- 5). Click the Windows "Start" button on your local Windows computer. Select "All Programs," then click "Accessories." In this program group, click "Remote Desktop" to open a window. This is the dialog window to connect to your Windows Home Server.
- 6). Enter the domain name you configured in Step 4 and click "Connect." A terminal window opens on your desktop that displays the remote Windows Home Server desktop. From this window, you can manage and control your Home Server.
