How to Draw the Boondocks

32
    • 1). Sketch a large oval to represent the head of the Boondocks character you want to draw. Use light pencil strokes, as this will just be a guideline for the character's head. You will eventually be adding and shaping the head a bit more. Divide the circle into four equal sections, taking note of how the face is angled. Draw small ovals on either side of the face to represent the ears.

    • 2). Sketch the hair of your Boondocks character as it moves from one side of the head, over the ears and down the neck. For example, Riley has his hair in cornrows, so you will need to create separated strips of hair. Huey has a large afro, which should be defined by small rigid lines to give it a soft textured look.

    • 3). Draw two horizontal lines, slightly curved, near the top of the character's head. Draw semi-circles underneath both of these lines to complete the image of your Boondocks character's eyes. Make sure that these eyes are both proportional to each other.

    • 4). Add eyebrows above the character's eyes and small lines underneath to better define this area. Move to the ears and construct the inner ear lines. Draw a small line at the bottom of the character's face to represent the mouth to finish the head.

    • 5). Create a guideline to your character's body as it is positioned with single lines. This will just help you form these limbs, so use light pencil marks so that you may easily erase these lines when you are finished.

    • 6). Sketch the basic outline of your character's clothes. Add muscle tone to the arms and lightly sketch each of the fingers as they are depicted.

    • 7). Compare your drawing of the Boondocks character with the picture you are using as a reference guide. Erase any guidelines you used to create the drawing and clean up any inconsistencies you notice between the two.

    • 8). Outline all of the remaining pencil lines that define your character with an ink pen. Carefully move the ink pen over each of the lines in a smooth and consistent manner. Let the ink dry, then completely erase any visible marks that are still left.
